What is hydronic system remediation?

Hydronic system remediation is the process of diagnosing and correcting a closed-loop system that has become corroded, fouled, or chemically unstable. Unlike a flush, which mechanically removes loose debris, remediation identifies the underlying cause of the failure — oxygen ingress, failed water treatment, microbial growth, or glycol breakdown — then chemically cleans the bonded deposits, passivates the exposed metal, restores corrosion inhibitor, and verifies the result through water testing.

What actually causes hydronic loops to fail

A closed loop shouldn't corrode. If it is, something is feeding the reaction.

Oxygen Ingress

The most common cause. Undersized or waterlogged expansion tanks, air vents pulling in rather than pushing out, negative pressure at the pump suction, or oxygen-permeable barrier tubing. Fix the chemistry without fixing the ingress and it comes straight back.

Failed or depleted treatment

Inhibitor consumed and never replenished, or dosed at the wrong concentration. Partially depleted inhibitor can be worse than none — it can concentrate attack rather than prevent it.

Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC)

Bacterial colonies, including sulfate-reducing bacteria, forming biofilm and pitting the metal beneath it. Often the cause when a loop fails despite apparently correct chemistry.

Glycol degradation

Glycol breaks down over time into organic acids, dropping pH and stripping inhibitor. A loop that hasn't had glycol tested in years is a common find.

Galvanic and dissimilar-metal attack

Steel, copper, and aluminum in one loop without appropriate multi-metal inhibitor chemistry.

Under-deposit corrosion

Once sludge settles, the metal beneath it corrodes in an oxygen-starved cell that treatment chemistry can't reach. This is why deposit removal has to come before re-inhibiting.
